"If I wasn't born a JW, I would never have become one."
by OneEyedJoe ini've seen it mentioned by a few on the forum that at some point there was a realization that had they not been born a jw, they never would've converted no matter how many times the jws tried to study with them.
this was my experience too, and i'm wondering how universal it is for those that were born-in but eventually left.
i think i started having this thought (more specifically that if i were not born a jw, i would surely have become an atheist by now) in my late teens.

From when I was a teenager, i openly said I wouldn't have been a JW if I wasn't raised one. I didn't say this or mean it in a rebellious or hostile way-- just the preaching/door knocking work and the message wouldn't have appealed to me. I always thought, 'we each are born in to our own truth' as in the religion of ones parents is always the 'right' religion. -

New here
by MarkofCane inhello and thanks to everyone for participating on this forum it has really been of much value, for those of you that post here know that your words are not lost you never know who is reading your expressions, lives are being changed and nonsense challenged.
i’m not much of a writer so excuse my untrained writing style and grammar but i want to share my story to help anyone who is visiting here to see that we are real people, fathers, mothers, sons and daughters who have come here for answers, there is no agenda, just searching for truth.
i hope my story will help others as so many here have helped me..

Warm Welcome. I would, along with others, would love to know more, without giving away identfying traits. Kids? Wife? Are they awake? Are you a servant?
I woke up August of 2014. The JW dot org craze was rampant, we were laughing about it and I did a google image search. It was a golden calf with people bowing down, inside was a jw dot org logo. I clicked the image which brought me to a thread here. My world fell apart.
People here have amazing advice. Take it slow. Be pissed, breath, take it all in. A new life awaits you!

Jw style encouragement - Return or perish....
by Tornintwo ini haven't been able to post much recently, just started a new job with long hours... but i'm thinking of you all and drop in when i can.
anyway i've been meaning to tell you about this because thought it would tickle some of you.... 5 months after my last meeting, i've just had two "kind and loving" 'come back' messages/cards from different people both using the same days text from dec. 31st which says: .
"it is not a desirable thing with my father who is in heaven for one of these little ones to perish" matt 18:14. jehovah cares deeply about all those who have expressed love for his name, even if they are not actively serving him at present.

If that is how juvenile and petty God is, then I don't want to live forever, I would rather perish! I hate hearing this guilt/death/save you life nonsense. They "think" their helping, because they live with that fear- well guess what- You don't, you don't buy it and it doesn't effect you. Alas, they will never see. So frustrating -

The Retractable Dangling Carrot
by TMS insome scattered thoughts about the granting or denial of privileges of service as a control mechanism:.
this method of persuasion involving reward or punishment is so deeply ingrained in watchtower function, it is second nature.
although sometimes subtle, sometimes blatant, everyone from new bible study to traveling overseer is subconsciously aware of the possible limiting of his official opportunities to serve god and his brothers.. .

Great Post. 100% my dad, an amazing/generous/successful man who views his worth through this F*&^ed up JW lense. Of course he isn't used as punishment for being successful-total control mechanism. -

No more reporting time for field service!!!
by Khaleesi inso at last i am in my next step of my fade, this month is the first month i did not turned in any hours.
i received a text from our group leader an ms & i told him i didn't have any to report, then of course it got bumped up to the elder & i text him back i have no hours to report for december.
i came to this decision when reading many posters here about the yearbook stats, i do not want & refused to contribute to this organization "boosting" numbers for their glorious purposes, after the rc in australia they do not deserve for me to give them a "production" report of what i do for god, no more.

Congrats! My motivation was also not to add to their data collecting. We have not turned in time for three months now. No calls, no nothing. So, after we received group texts regarding the RC and the hotel website, we blocked all the phone numbers of every JW in the area we know.

Why I like the Mormons and why they are so much nicer then the JWs.
by new boy ini never really knew any until recently.
as a witness we all thought they were weird.
but the two faiths are a lot alike, except the mormons are really so much nicer than the jws!.

A very devout mormon I worked with said the joke with his mormon friends was : "When you leave the Mormon church you get an extra day off and a 10% Raise"
I thought it was pretty funny and they could joke about themselves. What would JWs tagline for leaving be?
Their still a cult- but If I had to choose, I would much rather have been mormon. At least they go to college and get to celebrate holidays.

Non JW friends don't understand
by kozmo init never ceases to amaze me that your personal friends have no clue what it is like to have been one.
i was speaking with a friend the other day about having been a jw.
she said, oh i have a dear friend of 30 years who is one and she is so nice!

Great Topic! I have expressed this myself-and find myself very frustrated-and defending Jw's position, which makes me more frustrated.
Frustrated-- I have a lot of non JW friends from my school/college. When I have explained to them that I have awoken to the fact that this is a cult-why its one- and the sadness of my parents not seeing it. They are totally clueless- "you always seemed so normal, your life wasn't so bad" regarding my parents "can't they just move away to escape?" NO- its not a physical cult- its mental- they just don't get it.
Defending JW's- The religious ones have asked "why didn't you see it sooner" "of course its not Christian-Their view of Jesus is skewed etc" Then I feel defensive explaining how things are presented growing up JW- it all seems legit. You don't have time to critically think of all these things-people you trust, your parents raised you in it etc. So, in the end I feel defensive explaining why i was fooled. As if I had a choice in the matter, being raised from infancy. I like to ask if they have questioned the faith of their family- usually their in the right one! ha
All around, I have great non JW friends, but this huge part of my life- where you can lose it all. Is beyond their realm of reality- Its just too bizarre to explain, because they can't imagine that family /loved ones would REALLY shun you.

To all JDub lurkers: How can you continue to preach knowing that you are telling lies?
by macys inthis is a damn serious question.
you must know by now that jerusalem was not destroyed in 607 bce and that 607 was initially picked by ct russell by using his "pyramid scheme" measurements.
there is no hiding these facts yet you continue to preach this nonsense.

We quit service before we woke up because it was a waste of time. We weren't regular at meetings for a couple of years because it was too much work for the same recycled garbage. When we did go, we felt good at the end cause we were doing what 'we ought to be doing' despite the fact we spent the whole time preoccupying our kids, feeding them snacks, or spanking them (that makes me sick, thank god it was rare and they have long forgotten).
Once we woke up, we couldn't force ourselves. Zero/nada/no thank you--We faked service hours which recently stopped also. I have great empathy for those of you who are suffering for the sake of your family life. Its a sick way to live and I got out pretty easy with my spouse.
There is a great article on meletivivlon.com -he or she- wrote about confessing christ. Under the subheading Dealing with Wolves, he talks about how to answer elders when they start questioning you and your loyalty or about JW things.

How will the Watchtower Cult end?
by WireRider insome announcement of sorts?.
there are all kinds of conspiracy theories.
their head count and time cards are all faked by the gb, and "congregations".

It won't end. There will always be loons, followers, and leaders. Some people like to make rules. Some like to follow. It will become something new in the future, when most of us are six feet under. -

Has John come back yet? Or is he still writing the rest of the story?
